ON THE HEAVIER SIDE

A New Years resolutions list is something that normally is ready before the new year starts. Now I am not really a New Years resolutions kind of girl, but I did come up with some goals for 2012. One of those goals is to be slightly more daring when it comes to my looks and add a few of the ‘unexpected’ to my wardrobe, while still sticking to my style. Starting of with these Zara boots, which are maybe a little heavy for me at first sight, but might work very well with the rest of the contents of my closet. Yes I was doubting at first, but as you can see I already took them out for a spin and the number one thing for me to see if I did a good buy is when I want to wear it immediately after I get home from shopping. ps/ There are new outfit posts coming as soon as I can, it is just that I have been pretty sick for the last few days and you do not want to see what I am wearing when I am not feeling well.

WISH WISH WISH

Remember when I used to do wishlists like these every once a week? Well, they are back from being away for a while and I hope you like it. Textile by Elizabeth and James jacket, Proenza Schouler bag and shoes, Topshop t-shirt and nailpolish, Orly Genger by Jaclyn Mayer necklace, Michael Kors watch. I know, there is no pants/bottom to be seen in this collage, but I would add a nice black fitted skirt that ends right under the knees, in a soft jersey fabric.

VOGUE FEVER

For weeks now, it’s the only thing the Dutch fashion crowd has been talking about: Dutch Vogue. What will the cover look like? Which model(s) are going to be on it? Is our country even ready for a magazine like this? This afternoon, Karin Swerink (editor in chief) and her team presented the very first issue of Dutch Vogue at a press lunch in George W.P.A. and it is fab. Very fab! Gorgeous Romee Strijd, Ymre Stiekema and Josefien Rodermans – lensed by Marc de Groot – are on the cover, wearing Acne, Valentino and Chanel. I have to be honest, when I saw the cover circulating on the internet this morning, I thought the cover was a bit too young and girly (and pink!) but after seeing it in real life and holding it for a little while, it just seems to be perfect. At the moment I am dealing with an extreme and severe cough, but I dragged myself out of bed for the press lunch and went straight back after. The timing of my cough is great though, I have more than enough time to flip through the pages and actually read this April issue.

VELVET BOOTS

Tags: , , , ,

Ever since I tried on the right boot of this amazing pair of blue velvet Jeffrey Campbell ankle boots at LF Stores in New York during Fashion Week, I have been coming slightly obsessed on getting a pair of velvet kind of cowboy styled ankle boots. You are probably wondering why I did not buy these blue babies then? I walked around in just that right boot for about a half an hour, trying to find its left sister, without any luck. Helped me remember why I am not too much of a fan of the sale season. After googling for a little bit, I bumped into a red pair of embroidered ones that the Rodarte sisters designed for their Opening Ceremony collection, which are even better than the ones JC made. I guess I have never used the word before, but these are rad! Ofcourse both of these pairs – which I would happily ever after wear with just about anything (skinny jeans, knee length jersey skirts, shorts) – are nowhere to be found, since they are not from this season. Aaand the search goes on… ps/ If you ever see a lost pair of either one of these pairs in a size 38 – on eBay or in your closet -, I am more than ready to welcome them with open arms. ph/ Summerlisten, Cocorosa

BURBERRY STORE OPENING

Tags: ,

Last Thursday I had the honor to be one of the girls being dressed by the amazing Burberry for their store opening on the PC Hooftstraat in Amsterdam. I day before the opening, I had a fitting at the newly opened and very beautiful Conservatorium Hotel and I had a tough time choosing between all the pretty birds hanging in the rack. Am I going to wear a dress? Is it going to be a pair of skinny jeans with a transparent shirt? Or a classic trench? I went for this beige trenchcoat, with a darkbrown leather rim (beautifully crafted!) a darkblue skinny jean and a pair of killer heels with raffia detailing in the back. A good decision if you ask me, I’ve never been stopped so many times for what I was wearing.

Yes, I know. Maybe I do need new shoes. It’s just that I still like these so much (+ they’re comfy and go with everything). And isn’t that what ‘normal’ people do? Buy something and wear it over and over again, sometimes even until it starts falling apart… I think the fashion industry is going in that direction anyway. I mean, designers and fashion houses are focusing more and more on creating collections that will last longer than just (or not even a whole) season and I think that really is a good thing. Who wants to spend over 1.000 euros on a bag when you won’t be able to wear it next season ’cause it’s too trend sensitive? Not me! Same goes for a pair of pretty affordable Zara pumps in my opinion. My blog has never been about consumerism and it never will be. I know I failed at the 5 Piece French Wardrobe thingy I tried for a couple of months, but that doesn’t mean I buy new stuff every single week and I don’t really want to. I think it’s fun to always have things to crave for and to have to mix and match with the things I do own until I get sick and tired of them, put ’em away for a while and then mix and match ’em again. I love the fact that when people that know my blog open the doors of my closet and are surprised by the small amount of clothing I actually own. Ralph Lauren denim shirt, Mango jeans, Zara shoes and Style by Marina coat.
