ORANGE BLOSSOM

The biggest benefit of having your workspace in a store is that it is not hard to get inspired. The biggest disadvantage is that it is super tempting to leave with an empty wallet at the end of the day. Ever since my boyfriend and I moved in together, I have been on constant hunt for things that make the apartment look super cozy. Now, what is easier than to add scented candles, tons and tons of them? My problem with scented candles is that I am not too fond of the regular vanilla and lavender ones you usually bump into. These ‘Orange Blossom’ ones are just special enough and can be found at The Collector (Eerste van der Helststraat 1D in Amsterdam) and I can tell you they smell gorgeous. There is also Thyme, Mown Grass and Jasmin available and I am waiting for the day my favorite -Fig- gets restocked. You can find them here.

PRINT(S) GALORE

After cleaning out my closet big time I came to the conclusion I am kind of missing a good print in my wardrobe. There is obviously a lot of blacks, grays and other neutral tones available when I am getting dressed in the morning -and I have worn quite an enthusiastic print here and there- but I am in desperate need of pieces that speak a whole nother language. I bumped into this printed shirt the other day at Zara and I admit it is not usually something I would run to the fitting rooms with, but I thought I would give it a go and try on everything that grabbed just a tiny bit of my attention -imagine what that fitting room looked like after trying everything on! Anyway it looked pretty good on and I was already thinking of tons of things to mix it with (also things that I do not own yet), enough for me to decide to take it. More to come?

20.000

Some of you might have already read my enthusiastic tweets about this, but I just reached over 20.000 followers on Bloglovin’! I would like to thank everyone who is following the afterDRK adventures in any possible way and for supporting me throughout each and every bit or bob I post on the web. If it was not for you guys, a LOT of things I have experienced in the past few years would not have happened. Last year I celebrated 10.000 followers on the ever useful platform with friends and drinks, how to celebrate this time? ph/ Lisa Galesloot

IN MOTION

Going in a more sophisticated -with less colors and prints- collection, Ready to Fish_ presented their new collection called ‘In Motion’ in Amsterdam on Tuesday. Inspired by movement of dancers, they came up with clean cuts and simple pieces, while trying to keep it refreshing. Going through the collection, I fell for the amount of white, a black semi-sheer long shirtdress and a coated dark jeans -which is nothing new, but I have never seen such a nicely done coating before.

One of the most often asked questions I get is probably what beauty products I am currently using. Of course I am no expert in this area, but I would say I am quite particular choosing my products. Let me introduce to you a monthly overview of my current favorites, starting with: L’eau de Chloé perfumed bubbles Origins ginger souffle whipped body cream Yves Saint Laurent (or is it Saint Laurent Paris?) Touche Éclat 2 Chanel Le Vernis in April, May and June

ITS

Victoria Spruce, Vogue Talents Award Mark Goldenberg, Vogue Talents Award Ichiro Suzuki, Fashion Collection of the Year winner Marius Janusauskas, winner of the Diesel Award For the eleventh time in a row, the Italian city Trieste was all about ITS, International Talent Support, a platform dedicated to the scouting and support of young creative talents from all over the world. If there is one thing in fashion that I absolutely love, it is seeing young talent, real talent. This year’s concept was all about the duality between GOOD and EVIL and everyone visiting ITS, whether as a jury, contestant or as press, had to choose for one of the opposite poles. Over the past few years I have seen the work of many fashion students and graduates, but I have never been so impressed by anyone until Ichiro Suzuki. He got inspired by the works of Bridget Riley, Escher and Vasarely and English classicism and his collection was nothing like any other collection I have seen recently from such a young designer. Mind. Blowing. The young Suzuki says to create his alter ego when designing, which was clearly visible when he entered the catwalk in an easy white t-shirt, jeans and flipflops. Apart from attending the jewelry and accessory exhibition and the fashion show, I was lucky to discover the beauty of Trieste as well, with its amazing architecture, beautiful sea and of course delicious food. I mean seriously, Italy is the only country where I gain weight easily. CLAES IVERSEN

Claes Iversen got the honor to open Amsterdam Fashion Week last night, with a mix of elements from his previous collections. The Danish designer opened with minimalistic looks in grey and neutral tones, followed by colorful floral prints and butterfly decorations. What I really liked about his show was the storyline and how the neutral tones fluently went from bold floral looks to more dramatic colors and dresses. My favorite piece from this SS2013 collection is that black long sleeved dress with an amazing amount of handwork. I personally would have loved to see a different shoe, this silver one looks a bit cheap to me in comparison with the super chique collection.
