TIBI, THE DAY BEFORE

Tags: , ,

Since it’s their 20th(!) show at New York Fashion Week this season, it only felt right to give Amy Smilovic’s Tibi a bit of extra attention. And so I went to their showroom on Broadway to sit down and have a little chat with Amy herself and capture the last bits and bobs of show preparations.

LISELORE FROWIJN’S ‘FIRST’

Tags: , ,

Every now and then, young talent pops up that is worth raving/going crazy about. Liselore Frowijn is only 23 years old and has already achieved a pretty impressive CV. She graduated cum laude in 2013 with her collection Afternoon of a Replicant with which she later won the Dutch Couture Award by Frans Molenaar and the Prix Chloé Hyères International Festival de Mode 2014(!). A little while ago she got to open the Vodafone Firsts Fashion LAB program at Amsterdam Fashion Week. It’s a program that helps to create a bigger audience for young designers and let them do something for the very first time and I think it’s inspiring. I mean, what was the last time you did something for the first time? For Liselore, it was her debut on the catwalk.

CLAES IVERSEN

Just a few days before his show, I met up with Danish/Dutch designer Claes Iversen at his atelier to talk about nerves, Amsterdam Fashion Week, his new collection and what makes him tick. Because after showing 14 times at Fashion Week, does one still get nervous?

MY FIRST CHANEL SHOW

When I got the phone call (let’s just call this THE phone call), I was riding my bike from the physical therapist back to the office after having had my first dry needling experience in my right upper thigh (let’s leave this story for another time, shall we?). It nearly knocked me off my bike, but I was going to my very first Chanel show. I repeat, I was going to my very first Chanel show.

INSIDE THE ACNE STUDIOS UNIVERSE

As per usual I took a little detour up the 18th arrondissement for a re-see at the spacious Acne Studios showroom. This time to find myself at pretty much the perfect Spring/Summer 2015 wardrobe, which means Acne Studios did an entire wardrobe for the social calendar this season.

DELPOZO

Delpozo was hands down the best show of New York Fashion Week. Yep, I just said that. So beautiful. While the show started with sportswear inspired items in somewhat extreme proportions – the widest red culottes you’ve ever seen paired with a white bandeau that I wanted to wear immediately (after a good workout that is, ha!) – the looks slowly turned more whimsical and into a complete dream towards the end.

ASYMMETRICAL SHIRT

This asymmetrical shirt was probably (for sure) my very favorite piece from the Tibi show earlier this week. It’s boxy but feminine, simple but interesting and cropped but dressed. This way pretty please!

THE HAIR AT ANN YEE

Those cute striped nails were not the only head-turning beauty feature at Ann Yee’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Inspired by the unpredictability of the seasonal transition from late winter to early spring, Aveda‘s Jon Reyman introduced a mermaidesque urban updo. Sleek and neat above, but full and wavy below the neck.
