Fashion is everywhere

Jetteke and I must have crossed paths – at events or fashion shows – about a thousand times before we actually met and got the chance to work together (remember React Now?). It is funny how I used to stay at home to watch her sister Lieke play Charlie in a Dutch soap opera as a teeny teenager and then follow Jetteke’s mesmerizing work as a stylist ever since I became interested in fashion.

She is a regular for Dutch Vogue, Marie Claire and Glamour and has styled models like Erin Wasson, Alek Wek, Lara Stone and Doutzen Kroes (often lensed by Petrovsky & Ramone and Paul Bellaart). Lucky me that, in between her busy schedule, she took the time to share some of her wardrobe secrets.

ps: Jetteke keeps track of some of her work on her personal Pinterest account.

How would you describe your own style?
Luxe, ‘feel good’ and comfortable. I always add my own personal touch and have a thing for beautiful materials.

You are a stylist, how does your own style reflect in your work?
The concepts I come up with for styling jobs are always a reflection of what currently makes me tick. I want to make women that see my work wish that they are the girl in the picture, wear the clothes that the model is wearing and be where the picture was taken. It is my challenge to create a larger than life feeling to every single photoshoot.

You seem to breath fashion, how did you get involved in the industry?
I have had an eye for things that are special from a very early age. I have been in love with Chanel since I was five years old and even though I did not know what it was, I knew I would grow up and want to wear it one day. As a kid, I used to already tell people how I liked their style. I even came up with little words for certain things, like Volvo-shoes for handmade leather loafers.

Things that are made with love and with craftsmanship have always held a special place in my heart, whether it deliciously looking pastry by a good patisserie, a pair of pearls, a beautiful bag, a gorgeous image or an enchanting painting.

Favorite brands?
Anything touched by Phoebe Philo, Azzedine Alaïa, accessoiries from Chanel and everything Hermès.

Christian Louboutin and Sergio Rossi.

Chanel and Hermès.

When I am abroad I like to shop at stores like Barneys or Maxfield in Los Angeles. In Amsterdam, it is Salon Heleen Hülsmann and PS Atelier (both vintage).

Current favorite item(s) in your wardrobe?
When I do not know what to wear, I usually end up in either a pair of denim or leather pants, a striped shirt and flats. Currently on rotation are both my black and white t-shirts, leather and suède pants, all my jeans, my Céline leather jacket, vintage loafers from Chanel, Lanvin ballet flats and Kenzo x Vans sneakers.

Most precious item?
All my jewelry pieces that contain an emotional value, like the bracelet I got from my husband and the rings I got when my boys were born.

Biggest bad bargain?
Tall boots from YSL, they were sold out in my size, but I wanted to have them so badly so I went for a size too big. Never again.

Something that everyone should have in her closet?
Well fitted denim, a little black dress and a pair of black classic Louboutins (preferably not too high, you have to be able to dance in them all night long).

Anything that is still missing in yours?
The Constance bag from Hermès.

Your ultimate style icon(s)?
Lauren Hutton, Carine Roitfeld and Coco Chanel.

Any future dreams?
Working with Mario Testino would be a huge dream coming true. His work is amazing and a reflection of how I see women. He always makes women look extra beautiful and his work is sexy, but at the same time sophisticated and playful.
