NEW YORK SCORE!

At the very coldest day during New York Fashion Week – the one day I had no shows or presentations, nor did I have any other plans – one of my friends came up with the fantastic idea to go outlet shopping at Woodbury (located at an hour drive from Manhattan) and I immediately said ‚yes’. I had heard so many good stories (Prada shoes at 90% off, Stella dresses for little over $100,- and a Céline store) that I had to give it a shot. Because hello(!), music to my ears. I have to admit that when I got dropped off at the food area, all I could think of was ‘can someone please get me out of here?!’. I was one of the first to arrive there that morning and the food hall looked so miserably sad that I almost wanted to jump straight back on the bus, back to civilization. When my partner in crime arrived – she came from the other side of Manhattan, hence why we took a different bus – we manned up and came up with a survival plan (Barneys first, then Céline and so on and so on) for this war zone.

OUT WITH THE OLD

…in with the new. Let me introduce you to my first official 5 Piece Wardrobe buy of the year. Satin metallic brocade Mary Jane pumps by Miu Miu. They’re a little bit completely different from what I usually buy, but I guess that’s the whole point of growing a great shoe collection. Just like my glitter flats, they are special shoes and I need more special shoes as the rest of my ensemble is usually a simple uniform consisting of grays and blacks. Anyway, this purchase wouldn’t be a real me buy if I didn’t have an extra argument (or two) on why I had to have them (I have this urge to always defend my purchases), so here goes. I am selling my Alexander Wang leopard pumps. If you’re interested, they’re still up for grabs here. Now who would get rid of an old pair of shoes without getting a good replacement first? Not me! Also, life is short, buy the shoes. One month down, five to go (with 4 more pieces left). Doable.

THE PERFECT BELT

Tags: , ,

Yep, this is my first new thing after starting the 5 Piece Wardrobe regime on January 1st. If you think about it, it’s 5 pieces in 6 months so it mustn’t be that hard, right? It’s basically one piece a month (almost). And even though this is over my price limit (I set my limit at 100 euros) when it comes to accessories that count as basics, I do count this perfect belt by Acne Studios as a basic. Why?

WHAT ARE THE BASICS?

Tags: ,

When I wrote about me starting the 5 Piece French Wardrobe regime again last week and about „basics not counting”, Amanda asked me what are the basics exactly? Good point. But before I dive into this, let’s change the name of this concept to just 5 Piece Wardrobe. Some of you rightfully suggested that we shouldn’t generalize a specific group of people and their style (plus not all French have a shopping habit that consists of only buying 5 new pieces a season) and that only makes sense. So from now on, 5 Piece Wardrobe it is. Anyway, back to the basics.

5 PIECE FRENCH WARDROBE, AGAIN

Yep, I am really trying this again. I passed once (see how I made it possible here) and failed miserably over the last 12 months, but as of January 1st I am back on the 5 Piece French Wardrobe principle again. (If you want to read what it’s all about, it’s best to read this (very old) post.)

THE CHICEST OF SLIPPERS

Tags: , ,

This is not a pool slide. It’s a leather slipper of the chicest variety that saved me from severe wardrobe crisis while on the road from Venice to London last week. My perfect summer sandal (though not hand made). PS: I did take ’em off while driving my temporary Maserati… Slippers, Hermès.

CLEAN SLATE

For a little while, I have been wanting it all, craving for everything. I even wanted that Mickey Mouse printed t-shirt when I saw Yasmin Sewell wearing it, which is utterly and completely not my cup of tea. And that anchor studded jacket by Acne Studios, but that one is a more obvious choice, obviously.

5 PIECE FRENCH WARDROBE CRISIS

Ah and right before my European Fashion Week tour (London, Milan and Paris, I am coming for ya!) starts, my continuous urge to get to the most perfectly edited wardrobe is trying to take over. I have been doing a great job in avoiding all shops since I got back from LA, but I just can not seem to evade the occasional lurk when it comes to the online shelves. I mean hello, I am being catapulted straight into fashion utopia in a couple of days and I am staying there until March 4th (tiny little pit stops in Amsterdam to do laundry and re-pack in between not included) and I haven’t packed anything yet. Wardrobe crisis! The fact that half of the New York show attendee’s doesn’t know what to wear either (no pun intended, but who goes bare legged in -1ºC?!) gives me some comfort and I will probably end up being totally fine, but still. I feel like I need something leopard, a pair of oversized grey wool trousers, a chic leather fanny pack (don’t ask), that navy blue trench from Céline Resort 2014, this peculiar oversized drafting shirt from La Garçonne Moderne, all triplet bags from the Alexander Wang show earlier this week, fitted leather trousers (mine are a bit on the boyfriend side), a cool bustier to update all my t-shirts and shirts, a wool oversized camel coat (preferably from the Stella McCartney variety), at least 7 pairs of new shoes, and the list goes on. And on… And on… Ok, so how’s your 5 Piece French Wardrobe experiment going so far?
