CLASSIC WITH A TWIST

These Balenciaga pumps have been my go-to shoes for events lately. In one way they are super classic, but with a twist because of the ankle strap. And – not completely unimportant – they’re comfy too!

NEW YORK SCORE!

At the very coldest day during New York Fashion Week – the one day I had no shows or presentations, nor did I have any other plans – one of my friends came up with the fantastic idea to go outlet shopping at Woodbury (located at an hour drive from Manhattan) and I immediately said ‚yes’. I had heard so many good stories (Prada shoes at 90% off, Stella dresses for little over $100,- and a Céline store) that I had to give it a shot. Because hello(!), music to my ears. I have to admit that when I got dropped off at the food area, all I could think of was ‘can someone please get me out of here?!’. I was one of the first to arrive there that morning and the food hall looked so miserably sad that I almost wanted to jump straight back on the bus, back to civilization. When my partner in crime arrived – she came from the other side of Manhattan, hence why we took a different bus – we manned up and came up with a survival plan (Barneys first, then Céline and so on and so on) for this war zone.

BLUE PLEATS

I only realized this morning that all I packed for Paris is monochromatic stuff. It’s pretty much all my closet contains (I know), but it’s funny I packed one head to toe white outfit, one head to toe grey and then I stepped out in blue pleats yesterday morning, worn with a matching blue top and popping socks.

AFTER BURBERRY

I am a little behind on posting from London Fashion Week, as I somehow got hit by severe grandma-ness, skipped the parties and fell asleep at 21.30(!) – head on my laptop – while I was planning on getting loads of work done. But here I am, as rare as it gets, wearing a skirt. Hey, it is Fashion Week! It is leather though, probably the only type of skirt I wear more or less on a rare occasional base (apart from the one I own from Rika). You can not really see much of it underneath all the big ass layers, but I am hoping for a sunny miracle in Milan as I am obviously packing this skirt again. Maybe even break one of my commandments and go bare legged? We’ll see. Coat, All Saints (men’s department); Cashmere Knit, Whistles; Skirt, Whistles; Shoes, Balenciaga; Bag, Céline; Scarf, Acne Studios. Pictures by Charlotte.

10 COMMANDMENTS OF FASHION WEEK

Fashion Week is fun et all, but it is hard work too. Though the catwalk photographers are the true working horses of the whole happening, some of my days, too include 15+ hours of running from show to show and an occasional meeting in between. To easily survive this month of fun and terror, trial and error and – especially this season – finding the right balance between attending shows and presentations, going backstage and shooting streetstyle, I came up with a list of personal rules. My 10 commandments of Fashion Week, winter style. 1. Don’t go bare legged – or bare midriff’d for that matter – unless you are a polar bear and therefor used to the cold ór you want to have a snotty nose for the rest of the marathon. 2. Don’t wear heels. That is unless you have a driver or are immune to pain. 3. Break in your new shoes at home. Brand new leather is stiff and can pop up at least 5 blisters in 15 minutes. I am speaking from experience. 4. Listen to your mom and eat loads of fruit, before you set foot in Paris and all you will want to eat is their bread. And their pain du chocolat. 5. Pre-plan everything you will wear from day to night. It sounds ridiculous but this way you won’t overpack ánd you’ll get an extra 10-20 minutes of sleep in the morning instead of trying to figure out what to wear. 6. Make wherever you are staying feel like home. Whether it is a scented candle, your favorite tea or a daily Skype conversation with someone back at home, it keeps potential homesickness down to a minimum. 7. Carry around as less stuff as possible during the day. Heavy bags are a nightmare. 8. Cut down on the coffee. After a quick and short up, it will only bring you down. Carbs do the exact same. 9. Don’t bring anything that will crease very easily. Trust me, ironing is not going to happen. 10. Treat yourself when it is over. Get at least an hour long deep tissue massage (not really a treat, since it kind of hurts like hell) to get the shoulders back on track. PS: I took this photo of Pernille‘s messenger bag on the second day of London Fashion Week. Blazer, Acne Studios; Leather Top, Designers Remix; Bag, Balenciaga; Pants, Marni.

GRANDPA STYLE

If you would cut my head out of these images, it might look like a grandpa showing off his monochromatic dressing skills and his fancy bag. Hello fancy bag! I have been really into this modern take on suit dressing lately, which kind of means piling whatever layers I come across in my cupboard on top of each other and finish it all off with a blazer and dressy pants. Works with denim too though. There’s this girl Ashley Owens, who I have been coming across more and more while browsing some street style. She runs the online magazine GrandpaStyle.com and is killing it like no other in menswear inspired ensembles. I mean… It is funny how her Instagram says “in pursuit of quality over quantity” and that tagline totally makes more sense when it comes to men’s (inspired) clothes than women’s. We just have way too many options to pick from, to make them timeless and everlasting. Makes me wonder though, are unisex pieces the most versatile and timeless items out there? Or is it just this grandpa style phase that I am in? Anyway, to keep my feminine side alive – and kicking – I promise I will wear heels soon. Maybe. PS: Cost per wear of this beanie is going down, down, down! Coat, COS; Shirt, H&M; Sweater, H&M; Blazer, T by Alexander Wang; Pants, Acne Studios, Shoes, Balenciaga; Beanie, 6397; Bag, Mansur Gavriel.
