SWEATER WEATHER

Tags: , , , , , ,

I am sure that in most European countries sweater weather has already started what seems like a long long time ago. In LA, it started just last week. And while I am typing this we’re actually back to quite the bikini weather again. Sweater weather barely even exists around here. Let alone turtle neck weather… Which means I probably would not have gotten this knit if I would permanently live on the West Coast, even though it does come in quite handy at night when it gets chilly. It is funny how you always kind of know how a change of location influences the way you dress – and shop for that matter – but you only realize how much it réally changes when you are actually there. Once I get back in Amsterdam, this is going to be my second home. Hey, it is big enough to live in! Knit, Céline; Jeans, Genetic Denim; Sandals, Birkenstock; Bag, Kurt Geiger; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban.

BORROWING FROM THE BOYS

Taking a walk on the masculine side is more the rule rather than the exception when it comes to my personal style. I absolutely love borrowing from the boys, whether it’s slouchy pants, boyfriend blazers or – in this case – oversized shirts. There is just something so chic about a mens inspired look and it works for just about any occasion. Think grabbing a coffee in a crisp white oversized cotton shirt, silk pants and quite the hefty sandal…oh wait that is my look! Ok, then think a pantsuit. It is made for our counterparts, but honestly looks way better on us, right? Or take a man flat and mix them with the perfectly cut boyfriend denim (oh, how I wish I managed to somehow fit my Acne Pop jeans in this story) and a super feminine top on top. Now back to the shirt, even though I found my holy grail of menswear shirts in the women’s department at Rika not so long ago, I am yet to add the white version to my wardrobe. Until then, Lesley’s wrinkle free (it is seriously quite impossible to get this shirt any creases) shirt will have to do. Consider this part one in a series of mannish sartorialism. Borrowing from the boys is too much fun to put it all in one post. To be continued… In the meantime, tell me about your favorite masculine ensemble. Cashmere Sweater, Zara; Shirt, H&M (men’s department); Silk Pants, Étoile by Isabel Marant; Sandals, Birkenstock; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban; Pouch, Prada.

ALL BLACK EVERYDAY

Tags: , , ,

It is the end of October and with only a suitcase full of clothes and shoes to opt from (plus some extra goodies to be found at my boyfriends side of our Culver City bedroom), I am finding myself back in my good old trustworthy all black everyday suit. Some tend to lean on the same silhouette when having a staring blankly at a full closet situation going on, I usually opt for a head to toe black. Honestly, I am feeling a 5 Piece French Wardrobe breakdown coming up (maybe it is just too much of a high-flying idea anyway, when living abroad with only a tiny amount of the usual wardrobe options available) and with a possible tiny trip to Paris coming up, I need your support. The one that can think of and describe the most brilliant way to get through what I put myself into gets a hug, sealed in an envelop… PS: Happy Halloween! Sweater, Acne Studios (men’s); Suit Pants, Acne Studios; Sandals, Birkenstock; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban.

Hello New York! Meet the photographers suit, my I want to get from place to place as quickly as possible look, accompanied by miraculously voluminous hair. (Seriously, I do not know if it is just the city or a combination of the city and my beach spray, but I do know that I love it!) On other quick notes before I go to sleep, who would have thought I would ever wear a sweat and Birks in one outfit to a fashion show? Sweater, Petit Bateau; Pants, Étoile by Isabel Marant; Sandals, Birkenstock; Bag, Kurt Geiger. Pictures by Anna Nooshin.

CROPPED TOPPING

After spending four perfect days on Gran Canaria, I am back home in Amsterdam for a few days before I leave again. At first I thought this island would be similar to Ibiza in terms of nature and architecture, but I was wrong. It is completely different – which is kind of logical concerning the islands are not exactly swim distance away from each other – and both have their very own beauty. Even though I only got to spend four days in Gran Canaria, I got to see a few of its little gems. My very favorite was the old town of Agüimes, a super colorful little place with an amazing amount of workplaces to discover. Also, what better place to finally try wearing a cropped top than a place where nobody really knows me, Maspalomas in Gran Canaria? Top, Samsøe Samsøe (DIY’d into a cropped top); Skirt, J.W.Anderson; Clutch, Acne; Sandals, Birkenstock; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban. Pictures by Charlotte.

ROCK BOTTOM CASUAL

Anyone growing on the Birkenstock thing going on here yet? My intentions when I clicked these somehow attractive monsters home were to exclusively wear them with the silk stuff in my wardrobe. You know, to keep things at least a tiny bit sartorially savvy. But then comfort kicked in and made me want to wear it with anything that I ruled out before. The first thing I do when I wake up in the morning is slip my feet in them to go search for my bathrobe (I always lose that thing (in other words: throw it on the floor somewhere very randomly), it is so frustrating) and – before I go all deep on the bathrobe stories – it is just very hard to take them off once your in. So first it was head to ankles chic and then boom, the Birks. Now it is some sort of chic to casual ombre (fancy blazer, even more fancy bag on top, casual jeans and the rock bottom casual Birks). Blazer, Maison Martin Margiela; Jacket, Weekday; Top, Weekday; Jeans, Diesel; Sandals, Birkenstock; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban; Bag, Céline.
