GREY DAYS

When I bought this denim jacket a few months ago I would have never thought I’d wear it this much. At first I had my eyes on one that was a bit (read: WAY!) out of my price range. At least for a denim jacket and especially for something I didn’t think I was going to wear this much… And then I found the perfect one at Weekday. (In case Weekday doesn’t ring a bell, it’s a Swedish retail concept housing perfect Scandi basics with a twist.)

A TERRY CLOTH T-SHIRT

While shooting for Elle at Nicole‘s apartment the other day, I saw this amazing gray colored softness peeking out of one of her cupboard drawers. I just had to take a closer look.

RAINY DAY COVER UP

What does one wear on a super rainy day, running from show to meeting to venue and so on? Nope, not an umbrella. That would have only helped the wind blow me straight into river Thames instead of Somerset House. (I seriously wonder how this didn’t happen to anyone yet…) My solution? Turn grandpa style into grandma style and wrap a blanket sized scarf around my head. It is warm, it is comfy (it looks kinda ridiculous though) and it doesn’t sweep me of my feet like an umbrella would have done in this crazy windy/stormy weather. If it wasn’t for the simple fact that I never bring one, a hat might have been a good option – like Charlotte did here – but yeah, so I never bring one. Now back to what I wore. I went for the good old double coat trick, because the big question is…how many layers is too many? Are there ever too many? Coat, COS; Leather Jacket, Acne Studios; Turtleneck, Petit Bateau; Shirt, Rika; Jeans, Paige; Shoes, 3.1 Phillip Lim; Bag, Mansur Gavriel; Scarf, Acne Studios. GRANDPA STYLE

If you would cut my head out of these images, it might look like a grandpa showing off his monochromatic dressing skills and his fancy bag. Hello fancy bag! I have been really into this modern take on suit dressing lately, which kind of means piling whatever layers I come across in my cupboard on top of each other and finish it all off with a blazer and dressy pants. Works with denim too though. There’s this girl Ashley Owens, who I have been coming across more and more while browsing some street style. She runs the online magazine GrandpaStyle.com and is killing it like no other in menswear inspired ensembles. I mean… It is funny how her Instagram says “in pursuit of quality over quantity” and that tagline totally makes more sense when it comes to men’s (inspired) clothes than women’s. We just have way too many options to pick from, to make them timeless and everlasting. Makes me wonder though, are unisex pieces the most versatile and timeless items out there? Or is it just this grandpa style phase that I am in? Anyway, to keep my feminine side alive – and kicking – I promise I will wear heels soon. Maybe. PS: Cost per wear of this beanie is going down, down, down! Coat, COS; Shirt, H&M; Sweater, H&M; Blazer, T by Alexander Wang; Pants, Acne Studios, Shoes, Balenciaga; Beanie, 6397; Bag, Mansur Gavriel.

LOVELY LACE

Speaking of lace and all things Valentine’s Day dressing related, how good is this delicate triangle bra?! PS: I believe it is sold out now, but they regularly re-stock or come up with a similar version. Bra, COS.

BOYFRIEND DENIM

Here is the jeans in full top to bottom, albeit still hidden underneath a thick pile of other garments. I guess they are particularly good in summer with a chic pair of slides and either a silk crisp white shirt and a red lippy (plus the perfect cross body bag, where art thou?). Did I just sense a little LA homesickness? Or is it the vitamin D that I miss? Since the sun seems to be holiday-ing in some place far, far away and I am not going somewhere tropical anytime soon, I thought I’d try and make it work with my current winter wardrobe. Some think boyfriend denim are made to be saved for the warmer seasons – especially when they’re a light wash like these – I personally think they work all year around. It might be a little harder to find the right boot to pair them with, but they just don’t deserve to be tucked away come fall and winter. Happy Sunday! Coat, COS; Leather Jacket, Acne Studios; T-Shirt, American Apparel; Jeans, MiH; Boots, Balenciaga; Scarf, Acne Studios.

WEARING WINTER WHITE

My mom always used to try and teach me black boots don’t go with white jeans and – even if in most cases she’s right – this is my attempt to prove her wrong. My attempt on wearing winter white (thé color of this month) too. I mean I wouldn’t try this with knee length boots (in any color for that matter), but I feel some white jeans can get along with an occasional black ankle boot. Paired with the dark oversized wool coat it takes the contrast away from being a bit too huge and the scarf is – other than keeping my guts from freezing – to prevent total boredom. Do you wear your white jeans in winter? What do you pair ’em with? Coat, COS; Sweater, H&M Trend; Jeans, Diesel; Ankle Boots, Zara; Scarf, Johnstons.

ONLY 3 BRANDS

Because it’s weekend, a very superficial and shallow question for today. If you could only wear 3 brands for the rest of your life, which would you pick and why? Mine are Acne Studios (I mean) and Céline (if only I ruled the world and everybody would own a tree that grows money or a dog that poops it). My third would be either COS for their great grandma style and superb basics, or Rika for their edge. Hmmm. Your turn!

NOSE DIVE IN WINTER

Brrr, baby it’s cold outside. And it is not even that cold (as in New York or #Chiberia cold) yet. Nonetheless, it feels like a nose dive in winter from being able to wear Birks without socks to needing to wear layers on top of layers on top of layers. No complaints though, dropping from a whopping winter 22 °C – in winter, that is whopping – to a 5 is an absolute pleasure. I am not sure how long it will take until I do start nagging, but so far so good (it’s been 2 days, haha). The Californian sun and my limited 23kg wardrobe fully charged me to start wearing a lot more than just a shirt and jeans again with a fresh view on my now fully available closet. Damn, I missed this coat. While all spring/summer campaigns are currently surfacing and I should maybe concentrate on perfecting my new 5 Piece French Wardrobe wish list (it will include chic slides and a whole lot of denim), I am ready to become the hippest yeti yet. Sub zero temps, bring it on! Coat, COS; Sweater, Anthony Thomas Melillo; Shirt, Rika; Jeans, Citizens of Humanity; Ankle Boots, Zara; Scarf, Marc by Marc Jacobs; Beanie, 6397.
