A NAIL POLISH GUIDE TO RED

A picture says more than a thousand words. And a set of well polished nails says more than a hundred handshakes. At least, in my opinion. Round, oval, square or pointed: regardless of your nail shape, there is one classic shade that works for all. The eternal color of love – and danger! – is one we tend underestimate too often: red. Some people even use it to curb their distraction problems, like texting while driving (the infamous red thumb reminder). Who knew red nail polish could save lives? Explore the potential of a beauty phenomenon responsible for spreading style from the 1920’s. Since all classics come in many variations Sabrina and I have narrowed our red devils down to a top five. From Fifty Shades of Red to simply Nifty Shades of Red.

HOW TO WEAR THE WHITE SHIRT

Say hello to my first in hopefully a long series of How To Wear. It is not really a guide on how to wear the item I am pointing out, more of a guide to myself, playing around with my own wardrobe…

HOW TO WEAR THE WHITE SHIRT

CROPPED TOPPING

After spending four perfect days on Gran Canaria, I am back home in Amsterdam for a few days before I leave again. At first I thought this island would be similar to Ibiza in terms of nature and architecture, but I was wrong. It is completely different – which is kind of logical concerning the islands are not exactly swim distance away from each other – and both have their very own beauty. Even though I only got to spend four days in Gran Canaria, I got to see a few of its little gems. My very favorite was the old town of Agüimes, a super colorful little place with an amazing amount of workplaces to discover. Also, what better place to finally try wearing a cropped top than a place where nobody really knows me, Maspalomas in Gran Canaria? Top, Samsøe Samsøe (DIY’d into a cropped top); Skirt, J.W.Anderson; Clutch, Acne; Sandals, Birkenstock; Sunglasses, Ray-Ban. Pictures by Charlotte.

GRAN CANARIA

After three full days at home, I find myself on a Spanish Island again, this time it is Gran Canaria, which is a completely different story than Ibiza. I am here because of Moda Cálida – aka Swimwear Fashion Week – but mostly to discover this place and its beautiful dunes of sand and picturesque little villages. I will keep things short for today, since I am staying in this beautiful, but gigantic hotel and it takes me about 10-15 minutes to get to breakfast. Better start walking! This is how I roll each and every single day no matter what I am wearing – whether it is silver pants and sneakers or a fancy dress – or what the weather does. I do not have a car (my boyfriend does though and I am free to use it but I never do) and I rarely take public transport. Bikes are everywhere in Amsterdam, there is actually even more bikes than people if I am correct, and it is the quickest way to get around. This outfit in my opinion totally reflects what a pair of reflecting sunglasses can do. This ensemble would be totally boring without the sunglasses. I mean, the ripped parts in the boyfriend jeans give it a little boost, but the real boost is coming from the spectacular spectacles. What the Dutch do when the sun starts shining? Visit their ugly beaches. Our beaches will probably never make it into the top-10 prettiest beaches in the world, though I love to spend my days there. The endless view the sea has to offer, compared to the big buildings in Amsterdam is just so relaxing. Samsoe & Samsoe shirt, vintage shorts and Céline sunglasses. ph/ Lisa Galesloot

This vest has been hanging in my closet – unworn – for what it seems to be ages. That was until today. I have this weird thing with vests, I guess you can call it a love-hate relationship. It is just that I can not stand wearing this over something long sleeved and wearing it underneath something else just would not have done justice. I remember the days when it was normal to be wearing flared jeans everyday and all the girls in high school were wearing them. It sounds like I am super old saying things like ‘back in the days’ (or even worse; ‘in former times’), but isn’t it just funny how these things change so fast? I would not describe myself as a trendsetter back in school, but I was one of the first going for a pair of skinnier jeans (and also the first wearing those platform Spice Girls sneakers, but that is a whole another era). And I remember everybody looking at my jeans and making weird faces until a few weeks later they popped up in their own skinny’s. No one would have thought the skinny jeans would last this long and every season a huge comeback for flared jeans was predicted. Fact is there never was a huge comeback. I think the main reason for that is that every woman’s figure is different and we learned to pick our own favorite models. My number one still is the skinny jeans, but these flared jeans do make me look a lot taller when wearing super high heels that are hidden underneath. A good number two for me. Tell me, what are your favorite jeans? Diesel leather jacket and jeans, Zara shirt, Alexander Wang shoes and Vanessa Mooney bracelets. ph/ Lisa Galesloot
