SUMMER BLUE

Tags: , , , , ,

I believe I mentioned it before, but every summer my go-to color (black, duh!) changes into blue. Navy blue that is. Not really your typical summer hue, but it feels just a hint bit fresher than black AND goes with everything (too). Easily lazy you could say, but for me – usually hooked on black – it’s always a big transformation. Especially when there’s not even a small trace of black to be spotted in the rest of my ensemble.

SPORTSWEAR AS CASUALWEAR

Wearing sports clothes as part of a casual everyday attire is nothing new under the sun. Classics have been making their biggest comeback. Think Nike Air Force, Air Max 1… Kind of like a family tree that reincarnates and starts all over again.

BOYFRIEND DENIM

Here is the jeans in full top to bottom, albeit still hidden underneath a thick pile of other garments. I guess they are particularly good in summer with a chic pair of slides and either a silk crisp white shirt and a red lippy (plus the perfect cross body bag, where art thou?). Did I just sense a little LA homesickness? Or is it the vitamin D that I miss? Since the sun seems to be holiday-ing in some place far, far away and I am not going somewhere tropical anytime soon, I thought I’d try and make it work with my current winter wardrobe. Some think boyfriend denim are made to be saved for the warmer seasons – especially when they’re a light wash like these – I personally think they work all year around. It might be a little harder to find the right boot to pair them with, but they just don’t deserve to be tucked away come fall and winter. Happy Sunday! MADE IN HEAVEN

So it is not officially February yet, which means I am cheating on my 5 Piece French Wardrobe rules. Since I knew I was going to buy these anyway – as it is pretty much the one and only super specific item on my new list for spring/summer – I thought I would better cave now that they are still on sale. These are probably the closest to perfect boyfriend jeans will ever get. It’s like a modern version of a vintage Levi’s 501, without the hassle having to search for it. Made in heaven… Definitely go for that vintage 501 if you bump into one that perfectly hugs your lady lumps. I am just saying shopping for vintage doesn’t quite make the cut when it comes to the sartorial tricks I have up my sleeve. Maybe I should do a post on that…vintage and it being a complete disaster for me. What do you think? PS: Thank you Nicole for introducing me to these a long long time ago, I finally did it! Boyfriend Jeans, MiH (on sale here).

GETTING THE 5 PIECE THING STARTED

Season two of my 5 Piece French Wardrobe journey is about to begin and to get you all on board I thought it would be fun to share a 3 step guide on how to get things started. Clear the decks. We all have our ways to deal with the excessiveness in our wardrobes. Some keep their stuff forever and pile up big time, some throw out too much. My number one tip to get rid of the right items is to turn all hangers in your closet backwards – turn around folded t-shirts and jeans too – and turn everything back to normal once you’ve worn them. Whatever is still turned in a year from your start date (today?!) has to go. A year is looong, but hey you have to give all seasons a chance! Same goes for shoes and all your accessories. Come up with a smart way that shows you if you’ve worn it or not. Sentimental stuff is always a keeper. Get the basics. There are tons of lists to be found on which items are the glue to keep anyone’s wardrobe together. My list of 10 non-seasonal essentials is not going to be completely new nor refreshing, but it is what I believe could be a good way to get this thing started without too big of a threshold. All the basics need to be of perfect quality, so you don’t end up having to replace them each and every year/season. My ultimate 10 – shoes and accessories not included – are, a classic wool coat, a leather jacket, a cashmere sweater, a cotton shirt, the perfect white t-shirt, a silk evening shirt, a suit (can be worn as separates), boyfriend jeans, fitted black jeans and a skirt (any that fits your style and hugs your figure). There’s obviously more basics in the world than this, so don’t worry about counting others – such as a striped t-shirt – as basics. Wish List. Last, but definitely not least. Create a wish list of the 5 items you are imagining buying in the next 6 months. Don’t buy them all at once, try to evenly plan them out (this gives room to unplanned wardrobe necessities). Practically it’s almost an item a month, so it is not as hard as it sounds. My wish list for spring/summer goes a little something like this. A Denim Jacket. Ahh, I should have kept my old Levi’s, it would have been vintage by now… Some Sort of Slide or Slipper. Let’s say my Birkenstock phase needs to be compromised by a more subtle option. It might be a little early talking barefoot when it is not even February, but I can already see myself sliding through summer in these. It is like a luxury hotel slipper with a peep toe, perfect! MiH Phoebe Jeans. I could go on and on about these jeans and if it was not for the uncountable amount of boyfriend bottoms already in my wardrobe (here and here), these would be basic. Why would I still need them then, you ask? They are impeccable. As if someone just really did figure out how to create thé ideal pair of jeans. A Staw Fedora. Totally unnecessary, but such a chic summer staple. I might replace this with a summer dress later, but for now, I am convinced I need a fedora in my life. Since I wear hats all day everyday (never). Right. Timeless Jewelry. I have a little box of gold bits and things from when I was a child and I have thought about selling it, but I think I would rather get it melted and reshaped into something that I will actually wear. As for the basics, I am thinking a striped longsleeve (how could I have lived without it for so long?!) and that blue cotton shirt that is almost glued to my body in white. Who’s with me? And what’s on your wish list this season? Striped T-Shirt, Comme des Garçons; Necklace, Sophie Hulme; Boyfriend Jeans, MiH; Slippers, Newbark; Shirt, Rika; Hat, Maison Michel. Thank god it’s Sunday! And November – which means nothing but big knits, soft sweats and other bedroom-style favorites. I prefer things soft and comfortable, especially with a hint of hidden sexy lace. Hello, perfect weekend and all these yummy things to crave for this month! Oversized beanie The perfect more original alternative to the well-known beanie – this one is a bit more oversized and loose-fit. Stripes Is it a PJ? Nope, it is the best striped shirt in town. The back is actually the best – (button down on the front) button up on the back – maybe even better than its name: The Time For a Nightcap Shirt. Lo(a)vers They don’t call them slippers for nothing. These soft suede lo(a)vers are very comfortable for at home, but also look pretty awesome and sexy underneath your favorite cropped skinny jeans or suit. Lace This lace bra is a great mix with favorite laundry-day-briefs. Sweater weather Just can’t get enough of sweatshirts (especially when found in the mens department), all I really want to wear for Fall (heya, Sweater Weather). Acne Paper Love this last issue of Acne Paper. Perfect to read, but when in a lazy mood, also perfect to browse through. Amazing artwork and images. Beanie, 6397; Briefs, Base Range; Sweater, Opening Ceremony; Shirt, MiH Jeans; Slippers, Repetto; Bra, COS; Magazine, Acne Paper. While cleaning the house – this includes closet – a bit last Sunday – that is what Sundays are made for right? – I counted over 17 coats and jackets. 17? Yes, 17! It is not a mountain, but it sure is a decent pile. I also catched myself standing in a particular highstreet store holding a very nice wool coat for a bit too long a couple of weeks ago. I must say I am happy I put it back where it belonged, waiting for a good owner that is actually going to get some wear out of it. Anyway, back to the number 17.  While writing this post, I am wondering, how come I tend to wear the same coat over and over again? Wondering again, when did one single person need over 17 coats and jackets? Should I make a strict selection of 5 and sell the rest to be able to buy some new ones again? Oh and by the way, this hat is absolutely divine if I may say so myself.
