MADE IN HEAVEN

So it is not officially February yet, which means I am cheating on my 5 Piece French Wardrobe rules. Since I knew I was going to buy these anyway – as it is pretty much the one and only super specific item on my new list for spring/summer – I thought I would better cave now that they are still on sale. These are probably the closest to perfect boyfriend jeans will ever get. It’s like a modern version of a vintage Levi’s 501, without the hassle having to search for it. Made in heaven… Definitely go for that vintage 501 if you bump into one that perfectly hugs your lady lumps. I am just saying shopping for vintage doesn’t quite make the cut when it comes to the sartorial tricks I have up my sleeve. Maybe I should do a post on that…vintage and it being a complete disaster for me. What do you think? PS: Thank you Nicole for introducing me to these a long long time ago, I finally did it! Boyfriend Jeans, MiH (on sale here).

IRRESISTIBLE BEANIE

For two or even three weeks in a row, I have been throwing this beanie in my digital shopping cart. Every single morning I would check if it was still available, add it to my cart and then leave it there until it automatically got put back in the digital shopping racks. When it comes to shopping, doubt is my middle name. And even though that comes in quite handy when one wants to prevent themselves from buying bad bargains, I keep missing out on stuff too. So when I saw this wool/cashmere gorgeousness live on Abbot Kinney the other day, I decided to not overthink the irresistible beanie any longer and go for it. Now I know I shouldn’t be buying headgear when I originally included shoes in my 5 Piece French Wardrobe wishlist, but I kind of gave up on finding the shoes. Plus, they won’t be warm enough for the Amsterdam weather I am diving into in January anyway. So, an update on the 5 Piece French Wardrobe list: 1. The perfect leather jacket. We all know I got this one covered! 2. Black d’Orsay flats from Jenni Kayne Beanie from 6397 Usually accessories don’t count, but since this beanie came with quite the hefty price tag, it does. 3. Black top from Acne Yeah, I didn’t need another black top in my wardrobe. I am not really sure how to justify this one, I guess I just really (really!) liked it. 4. A cozy knit I am yet to find the perfect one. 5. A free spot! Still got one free spot left to fill. So far, pretty good… (Even though I secretly also bought a bra, but that really doesn’t count, does it?) Beanie, 6397.

I have always been very much into borrowing things from the other genders wardrobe or at least pretending to be borrowing – because their stuff is often more comfortable ánd the exact degree of simpleness I tend to look for – but with shoes I unfortunately and at the same time fortunately am a completely different size. If these 3.1 Phillip Lim Quinn loafers were a bit bigger and maybe a bit less detailed, I could have easily stole them from a super crazy well dressed men’s wardrobe, right? Also, these shoes are that new season marked item I was talking about last Thursday. It is the only thing I already bought for the new season and I actually even bought half of them (left or right shoe, I’m not sure?) a long long time ago. On December 18th to be exact. How is that possible? Pre-ordering. Before these, I was pretty much a pre-order virgin, but when this 3.1 Phillip Lim collection launched on Moda Operandi, it did not take me long to pull the trigger called my credit card. I super love(d) the shoes, but I was also very curious. Curious to see how I would feel about them six months later. Curious to see how it felt to pay half of something you have to wait for for six months and then automatically pay the other half when they are actually in stock. (And then pay a shitty amount of customs on top when they arrived, but I guess that is just the big disadvantage of not living in the US.) Have you ever pre-ordered anything? Is it something you would do on a regular basis? For me, I liked the idea to semi-have something already, but then again you slowly think about them less and less, because six months is kind of long. And then I kind of got surprised when they landed on my doormat. Hmmm… Loafers, 3.1 Phillip Lim.

THE ULTIMATE SHIRT

While walking back from Opening Ceremony to my hotel yesterday, I saw a fruit market on Melrose Place and got distracted by the Equipment store sign. I have literally tried on their Signature shirt over a thousand times (probably also in a thousand colors (never really made it to the cash register with one of them)), but never tried it in Fiery Red and since I was eyeing that color online, I thought it would be a good idea to quickly hop in and out to see if was for me. I ended up trying on both that gorgeous red and this washed black one pictured above and doubted for what must have been at least half an hour. I almost wanted to get them both (trust me, that sales woman was good!!), when my friend Caroline made me come to my senses when she told me that I should give up trying to want to wear color all the time if it is just not my thing. And so I ended up getting my good old favorite color. ps: I know, I know, another shirt?! Just trying to add more summer uniform options… Silk Shirt, Equipment (never get one in Europe, they are way more affordable in the US).

Good morning Los Angeles (and good night Amsterdam?!)! Forgive me for being absolutely obsessed with things that look like you just woke up in them. Like this shirt I found on super sale, that looks like something I randomly grabbed from my grandpa’s pyjama drawer. Shirt, Damir Doma; Jeans, afterDRK (also on sale).

THE SUBTLE SANDAL

Since it has been and will be raining all week, I thought it would be a good idea to splurge on a pair of sandals on sale. You know, just because if you own a pair of Birks, you have to have a more subtle pair of toe-barers as well. Right?! Sandals, Pedro Garcia.

RUFFLED SKIRT

A skirt? Ruffles? Ahh, this is one of those items (I think) no one could have pointed out for me and yet it is that perfect feminine touch for the mostly kind of boyish looks I like to create around skirts. I am thinking unfitted t-shirts and sweaters – anything really as long as it is from my boyfriends closet – and Balenciaga boots, Birkenstock sandals (ok, just maybe) or a cool flat sandal. Skirt, J.W.Anderson (on sale).

SIDE LOCK

Ah, Paris was fun! Aaand, I found a bag!! After two years of constantly spotting bags I liked – not loved – I found one that gave me butterflies. It usually takes me a couple of months filled with doubt before I pull the trigger on big guns like these and then when I am finally ready, they are mostly gone. This time I decided it was now or never, even though I was doubting for a little tiny second (about the color, not the bag itself). At first I was twirling around in front of the mirror with the leopard version of this Side Lock bag, but then the shop assistent showed me this ‘rust’ version – as they call this color over at Céline – and I thought that would be more me and a bit more versatile. You see, the leopard was super cool (and I would have loved to take them both), but I feel like this one I will love eternally. And where the pony hair of the leopard version would probably come off after a while of rubbing against my side, this burgundy (yes, it is rust, I would say it is burgundy) friend will only get prettier by using it. The shape of the bag is super classy, but the color and that side lock make it fun. I will show you the rest of my (smaller) purchases from Paris in a bit (or in a few days…)!
