VALENTINE’S DAY

Tags: , , , , , ,

In just a few days it is Valentine’s Day. It’s kind of completely nuts to have a special day to express ones love for another, but at the same time I am quite of sucker for romance. You see, I am never home during Valentine’s (duty calls in the form of New York Fashion Week, not complaining!) and I absolutely never wear red except for on the lips, there’s something about this day that makes me become all cheesy.

MONTHLY CRAVINGS, SUMMER SWEATERS

Dutch summer temperatures in between 20 and 25°C ask for my ultimate favorite combo – summer sweaters and shorts! That moment when you’re watching the sun go down and it starts to get an itsy bit cooler. The end of a long day at the beach…I heart it. Extremely comfortable, super cozy and the perfect silhouette. Plus, legs look instantly more petite with a bulky sweater on top, what’s not to like?

7 WINTER ESSENTIALS

7 Winter essentials that will take you straight through this coldest winter month called January, while laughing (really, really hard) in its face. Layering ingredients The key to keeping warm is three words, layers, layers and layers. This tank top is a good base to start from, being super stretchy and fitted enough to appear invisible underneath tons of other layers. Imagining it with silk slouchy pants for Summer, this is perfect for other seasons too. Too cool for school socks Socks may show this winter, so they might as well be fancy. Fantastic knits The number one must-have for the colder seasons, knitwear! Pick timeless basics, but with a twist so that they don’t need much else and you will be done getting dressed in the morning in a second or two. Basic boots Tall boots are hard to match with your entire wardrobe, ankle boots go with just about any bottom you own. Whether it is mom jeans or man pants, pick a pair that fits them all. TIP: Let your local shoe cobbler add a rubber layer to your favorite boots’ soles. When things get snowy and slippery, you will be the last one standing. Plus, that extra layer of rubber will keep your feet a little warmer. An oversized beanie They say we loose most body heat through our heads, so keeping our brains (and ears) from freezing by wearing a beanie would not be a bad idea. PERSONAL NOTE: I will never forget I had to cry last winter after a severely cold bike ride, because I seriously felt like I was loosing a few of my limbs. Washed black denim Washed black skinny jeans are one of the best in the denim department. They go with everything, make you look lean and are just a tiny bit more exciting than the non-washed variety. A gigantic cashmere scarf Ahh, there is nothing more comfortable than a humongously gigantic cashmere scarf. TIP: Men’s department scarfs are mostly bigger. Top, T by Alexander Wang; Socks, Comme des Garçons; Sweater, La Garçonne Moderne; Ankle Boots, Zara; Beanie, Topshop; Skinny Jeans, Topshop; Scarf, Acne Studios.

Blue has just an inch more of a surprise and freshness to it than black, but is equally as classic. I am not saying blue is the new black, but it definitely gets damn close. A mix of fabrics (cotton meets denim meets leather meets…) keeps things exciting. A.O. CMS Gotta love this amazing basics brand from – what a surprise – Stockholm. They do amazing shirting, bombers and sweaters (all you need in life). My personal favorite? Definitely their navy mens tee. Keep On Swimming I know, summer is pretty far away, but how cool is this swimsuit? Besides for actual swimming, I love to wear them as tops with boyfriend jeans. And nothing is more classic then a mix of navy blue with crisp white. Leather Weather Ok, there might be one thing that is even more classy than navy blue+crisp white – dark blue with black! Especially together in one piece, this combo is the best. Like this timeless leather moto jacket. PS: It’s on sale right now. Cover It Up Travel fancy and in style and hide your passport in this beautiful soft blue leather case. It also makes a great Christmas gift for just about anyone. The Key When building a total blue look, start with the perfect pair of blue jeans. To me this would be a semi skinny one, old school blue and with a good rip around the knees. The Scent This limited edition scented candle is so yummy. One can never have enough scented candles – fits and uplifts every interior – and again, makes a great gift. Hint Of Gold What can I say? Love love loafers, especially all the golden-dipped ones. They’re on top of my list. T-Shirt, A.O.CMS; Swimsuit, T by Alexander Wang; Leather Jacket, Rika; Passport Cover, Smythson; Jeans, Paige Denim; Scented Candle, Byredo; Loafers, Giuseppe Zanotti.
