PICKING SCENTS

Back in the days – I am not sure to what time I am actually referring – I feel like all women had their signature scent. I guess it was the generations before my mom’s, since she really never had one and was always switching. I am a switcher too, though there is one perfume that I always miss like crazy when the bottle is empty, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. There are tons of other ones that I like or maybe even love, however nothing does the trick for me like this one does…it is nothing very special but I guess I could call this my signature scent then.

I am currently spending a weekend in Paris at la maison de Liza Chloë, who I chatted with about this farely random thing this morning when we woke up. She does not really have a signature scent either, however she told me she has a few favorites as well, Prada Infusion D’Iris and Hermès Voyage. I like the fact that they are a bit more unknown and she picks them by their bottles.

How about you, do you have a signature scent? Or maybe just a favorite?

(F)LASHING

I have to admit, I do not often ‘spoil’ myself beauty wise. I have literally had one professional massage in my entire life, one manicure, never went to get a pedicure and only got a facial once. Oh, and forgive me for trying that fishy thing for your feet once (I was just too curious not to try, though I can not handle thinking about it now).

A little while back my friend Anna got lash extensions (even though she has some serious natural lashes going on already) and the idea of waking up like you just had your make-up done – just the eye part, but still – and not having to put on mascara any longer, as well as rubbing it off before going to sleep at night really convinced me of trying it out myself.

And so I went to Beauty by Lisa in The Hague last Tuesday, a salon that is specialized in these mink lashes called Blink. There are different lengths and different curls and since I am not really good at making decisions with these kind of things, Lisa helped me pick what would suit me best.

It takes about two hours with your eyes closed to attach a longer lash to each and every natural lash, I had about 120-140 of my own, so that is a whole lot of lashes to attach. Since your own lashes fall out every eight weeks and these are attached to your own, it lasts for about two months. However, Lisa advices to get a refill every three to four weeks.

It took me three mornings to get used to waking up to them and if I am completely honest I think I will go for a tiny bit shorter version next time – to make the difference between my own lashes and the Blink ones a tiny bit smaller – but being able to stay in bed for an extra 10 minutes in the morning is definitely something I could get used to.

More info (in Dutch) on lash extensions here.

ENVOÛTANTE

The lipstick I have been wearing lately has sparked a lot of questions. It is a new color by Chanel called Envoûtante.

NAIL CARE

Patience is something I could use a tad bit more of, especially when it comes to nail care. A little while ago, I gave up on always having vernis on my nails, however I do like to pamper my fingertips a little every now and then.

Starting with a cuticle oil/nail conditioner that I took home from Curaçao (only because it was too cheap to leave it on the island) and pushing back my cuticles with what we call a ‘bokkenpootje’ in Dutch I work all the way to the end to the actual color. Topcoats are not to be found in my vocabulary since I am way too lazy for that, but I do always use a basecoat <- This, I learned the hard way by having to deal with yellow nails (ewww) after an overload of black polish on my toes for a year.

So, extra garlic basecoat is supposed to be some kind of viagra for the nails and make them grow faster, but I do not believe or trust things that make nails, hair or lashes grow faster except for the sun. The price was the only reason to pick this friend.

Anyway, this new color from Chanel called Accessoire is my absolute new favorite, what is yours?

Basecoat and Cuticle Oil Nail Conditioner, Jordana; Le Vernis, Chanel (Accessoire); Glass File, Herôme; Cuticle Pusher, KoH.
