TIME FOR SUNGLASSES

Back in Milan I was invited to take part in a special sunglasses project by Safilo Group, the Italian sunglasses manufacturer for brands like Dior, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, Jimmy Choo, Alexander McQueen, Céline and more.

After getting my make-up done by Deborah Sasso Twa, I picked the Demoiselle 2 by Dior and the MM Hawaii 1 by Max Mara (my personal favorite) to get lensed by Simone Falcetta. Sunglasses heaven!

VOGUE’S 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Two days before my birthday on the 17th of March I celebrated another birthday, Dutch Vogue‘s that is. Over a delicious intimate lunch, we chitchatted about the many things that happened in the past year, the gorgeous models they shot, the beautiful editorials they made and the amazing shows they (and sometimes I) saw. Can it get more fancy than that? Yes it can… Chanel celebrated with us, gave me a fancy make-over and is treating everyone who buys this month’s Vogue with their new Le Volume mascara (which I can not wait to try on my lower lashes).

ps: Can I just have that outfit Marte Mei van Haaster is wearing already, head to toe please?

ON ECO-CONSCIOUSNESS

To be completely honest, I am a rookie at being green, it is most definitely not always on top of my to do list. Despite the fact that I am not the kind of person that only flushes her toilet once a day, neither do I fill up my grocery car with just biological food, the launch of the H&M Conscious Exclusive Collection – an exclusive range of items ready to be worn to any event that comes with a descent carpet (preferably a green one) – has made me think.

If they can produce an eco-conscious collection that does not look eco-conscious if you know what I mean, I would not mind being a bit more ‘eco-friendly’ every now and then. I do little things though that I should most certainly do a bit more consciously…

I do everything by bike when possible. Through rains and snowstorms that is. Meetings in other cities are done by public transport. The thing is that my parents live exactly 121km away and sometimes taking my boyfriends car is inevitable.

I try to print as little as possible. Hello technology – read: iPhone – and everything being in there!

I reuse all incoming boxes. Buying boxes for sending things is completely unnecessary when there is a pile of boxes ready to be re-used.

Of course I do a bit of waste sorting. Glass goes with glass, paper goes with paper, simple as that.

I never throw my clothes away. Remember I told you about my big spring wardrobe cleanse? Some of the things are going to be sold at the next Closet Affair and a couple of the bags I filled with unwanted clothes are going to an H&M store nearby. They are currently collecting ‘worn, torn and/or hopelessly out of style’ clothes to reuse, recycle or turn them into raw materials and new products (more info here). Good and green cause, no? Now tell me, what are your eco-friendly tips?

IN MY BAG DURING FASHION WEEK

advertorial – When it comes to carrying around things during Fashion Week, I like to keep it as minimal and above all lightweight as possible. Dragging around an SLR all day everyday is heavy enough already. So, what is actually in my bag during Fashion Week?

1. Flats, to be able to run from show to show without getting a blister. These are from Atlanta Mocassin.
2. A notebook, this one is from Smythson.
3. Memory cards for my camera. As I keep forgetting to put them back in my camera after transferring the photos to my computer, I keep buying them at camera stores near show venues.
4. Let me introduce to you my new addiction, Milka Tuc, an unsuspected combination of my two favorite things, chocolate and a cookie. Could not get any better right? Sounds a bit strange maybe, but once you try one, you are sold. Trust me.
5. Sunglasses, yes even in winter.
6. My iPhone.
7. Some make-up, which I somehow never ever use after applying it in the morning.
8. Business cards, but only when someone reminds me to bring them.
9. A tiny leather pouch that currently functions as a wallet. Gotta keep things as small as possible!

ps: You can get that Milka Tuc – and the Lu version, which is just as delicious – I was talking about for 1 euros in the supermarket and even better, try one now for free here.

VOGUE MARCH

They say time flies when you are having fun and I am more than sure they have fun at the Vogue Netherlands headquarters. I can not believe it is almost a year ago that they launched their very first issue. At first I was a bit sceptic about a Dutch Vogue I have to be honest. Why would we need another magazine? Are the Dutch – very down to earth – ready for Vogue? But on the other hand, who am I to judge?

Issue by issue, the Dutch Vogue team slowly convinced me there is no reason to be skeptic. As I said before, I do not read every single issue cover to cover (I sometimes skip some of the interviews), but I have been a very loyal buyer and keeper. All issues are displayed/piled up in my living room in a very neat-freak kind of way.

Now, let’s talk about the March issue I am probably reading as we speak on my way to New York. I feel honored to be the first (in the world?!) to give you a preview of the cover and a bit of what is inside. How gorgeous is Bette Franke on this cover? She looks super duper fresh and the editorial inside is divine!

Also, I am proud to be featured in Vogue’s 101 best online shops with two of my favorites.
