ON HOARDING

Stuff, trinkets, gewgaws, collecting is probably the one hobby we all have. It’s in our genes. As kids, we start out with seashells from the beach or insects from our backyard. Trouser- and coat pockets are a hotbed for all young hoarding junkies.

Adults are pretty much twice as bad. One collects music, while the other goes for highly expensive art. Sugar bags, coffee table books, bottle caps, post stamps, fridge magnets, stationary, nail polish, vintage, selfies…you name it.

Albeit I personally am a big fan of clearing and throwing things out (almost obsessively) – my significant other regularly loses stuff, sorry for that – even I have my phases of scraping fever.

It went from Spice Girls-stickers and miniature horses (in all kinds of breeds, sizes and materials) to sunglasses (in all kinds of breeds, sizes and materials). I own a whole bunch. Maybe not enough to intrinsically be calling it a collection, but it is a definite bunch. Now I used to have at least 17 of them, whilst I have managed to get that number down to a 10. Still, some look greatly alike. My friends can not even tell the difference between my Marc by Marc Jacobs and Bottega Veneta tortoise shades. Trust me there is a BIG difference!

I am not sure what exactly makes a pair of sunglasses so attractive to get all hoardy over them, to me they are just instant outfit makers/breakers. Like shoes (my other very favorite to collect).

Just two of them got the honor to be packed in my suitcase for my three month move to LA. More than enough (especially since Santa brought me yet another pair, one for each month) and I don’t regret taking as little as I did, but I can’t wait to get to wear the ones I didn’t bring when I get back.

Little hoarder me.

Do you have something specific that you tend to collect? Tell me all about it!

PS: I will show you a picture of all my sunglasses when I get back home.

Sunglasses (clockwise) Ray-Ban; The Row; Oscar Wylee x Kahlo.

Today I bring you my last NEW IN…an awesome Three Kings present received in advance for my wrist!

  1. I have two stacks of Vogue magazines that are higher than my 5’2″ body. They date back to 2001. I’ll never throw them away but it makes moving to a new place extra difficult. Once my mother wanted to throw them away and I almost got a heart attack. Weird, because in all other aspects I’m a complete purger of “stuff”

  2. Lovely sunglasses. I can never get enough of denim jeans, I keep buying them…

Xx

  6. Actually I tend to collect perfume samples. I have hundreds of them in a box. I always think “They’re useful, just put one in each bag and you’ll always have some nice scent with you!” But actually they just stay in this box and I look at them sometimes and tell myself “Waa you’ve got a lot, girl!”

  9. Ray ban is a classic, and those wayfarer are never out of style. So Roy Orbison style… Love them!
And yes, we all tend to collect something, and I may say that I’m a shoeholic! Love shoes – loafers and heels! Cannot get enough shoes…

    Love, Maria

  10. Ray Ban is a must have. And I agree with you; when you’re collecting something, nobody understands what’s the difference or why you want to get all of them but… they will never understand :P

Xx

  12. In Chinese fashion speak, we call this tendency a “chink in the armor”, no pun intended. ;-) It means when one sees a particulor item, style, color, etc., she loses her mind and would have to get it, even if she has a closet full of such item.

I don’t have a particular item but I have it worse; the tendency to get obsessed over a particular item/style/color that I just keep on buying until this thirst dies because I get obsessed over another particular item/style/color.

    It never ends.
