Though the Downtown area of LA is hands down my very favorite, street wise my heart belongs on Abbot Kinney.
Maybe it is because it reminds me a little bit of home. You see, the only thing I kind of miss while I am here is being able to walk and get lost.
The reason why I haven’t been shopping that much – other than the 5 piece French wardrobe thing – is that it is just too weird for me to drive from store to store. Abbot Kinney in Venice is the only street filled with tiny little boutiques that offer an afternoon of browsing without having to hop in and out of a car.
It kind of reminds me of the Nine Streets in Amsterdam, same vibe (better shops though!)…
Also, this padded number kept me warm on one of the very few cloudy (and even a bit rainy) days in California. When I get back home in January this will be a great great layering option for underneath all my knee length winter coats.
Ah, December already, one of my favorite months of the year just because of its instant coziness. Makes me crave for liters of hot chocolate, curling up in front of a fireplace (not mine, I don’t have any), cuddling with whoever I can cuddle, etc.
This year it is going to be quite different though. With the weather being all warm which is super weird for me.
Ok, time for The Holiday Issue!
PS: On other totally random notes, I finally got myself the blunt chop I was going for…kind of (maybe I should even go a little shorter). Whenever I am nowhere near the only hairdresser I trust, I get my hands on a pair of scissors and go for a #selfiecut. It obviously isn’t as professional as they do in the salon, but it will do for now. (Sorry hairdresser. You are going to have to fix whatever I did wrong when I get back to Amsterdam in January.)
Hello November! Whilst some of you are bundling up for fall and maybe even preparing for winter, excuse me for still enjoying summery temperatures in Los Angeles. After spending a couple of weeks discovering Culver City, we will be moving to my very favorite part of this city – Downtown! – on November 12th. Really, the only disadvantage of that place is being further away from the beach.
(You see, the only ‘clothing piece’ I have bought so far is a wetsuit. Lesley is trying to teach me how to surf and even though the waves and the power of water scare the sh*t out of me, I have been doing quite good.)
Right before moving I will go on a flash trip to Paris – 2x 12 hours in a plane, approximately 32 hours in Paris – to see what the whimsical windows of Printemps will be like this Christmas.
Anyway, before we start talking Christmas, let’s talk November first. This month is all about MAC Lustre Drops (which really is all you need), round sunglasses, finding real coffee, Downtown lofts, Nicole coming over ánd a new editorial that I am working on as we speak.
Phoebe Philo kept all of us holding our breaths for a little while by not releasing images of what is called resort to the public (aka. the internet) immediately after showing her new thoughts for Céline to the editors and buyers back in June. The main reason for that decision was all loud and clear; keeping high street chains such as Zara from knocking off – or should we sometimes say roughly copying? – everything before the originals even get the chance to hit stores.
About a week ago – only days before actually landing in stores – Céline Spring 2014 popped op on their website.
And it is yummier than ever! Hello perfect Spring wardrobe!
These are my very favorites from the collection, starting with a crisp white judo-like coat that would pay perfect tribute to my boyfriends sports career (he used to ‘play’ for the national team), complete with patent beige Birks and all. Then, the most gorgeous pair of white pants I ever laid eyes on (and I wouldn’t mind the navy blue coat either), they would elongate just about anyones legs. To juxtapose all the oversize, a perfect everyday turtle neck and men pant. Next up, white suit. Because everybody needs a white suit and this one has bold pocket details. And last but not least, I knew I loved myself a good suit, but I never knew I could love polkadots…
PS: I once wrote I would only exclusively post my own imagery on afterDRK.com, but since Resort showings and such are quite the exclusive thing and I do feel like writing about them every now and then, that was quite the ambitious announcement. From time to time, you will see images taken by others over here, but they will always be clearly marked as such.
Back in London, there were not much sunglasses needed. Umbrella’s on the other hand…
This was the only day I forgot to bring an umbrella as my +1 to the shows and I had to pay for it with flat hair and soaking wet everything. I guess that is where this little post-London, pre-Paris cold I am currently dealing with is coming from. (+1 in Paris will be anti-flu everything!)
Apart from the rain, this was the perfect day to wear this collarless white stained shirt I had been wanting to wear so badly.
I have this thing going on with collarless shirts lately and I do not know what it is about them exactly but I feel a slight obsession coming up.
afterDRK was created by Sabrina Meijer in 2009 with the intent of appealing to all fashion seekers, especially the ones that have a slight appreciation for simplicity, but always with some sort of edge.
