Ok last one. Books! I have to admit I am not really a bookwurm, but the number one thing I always bring when travelling for Fashion Week is a book or two. Sometimes it travels back home with me untouched, but it is good to have an option to dive into another world at night. Just as a tiny little escape from fashion madness.
So I could go on about the importance of bringing notebooks, keeping your skin moisturized or wearing a watch during Fashion Week forever, but the most important necessity is being with good company. NSMBL‘s Anna has been my Fashion Week partner in crime for two seasons now and we just signed our contract for next season – just kidding, but we are definitely joining forces in 2013.
Tess – not pictured, but the one that took this lovely frame – joined us in New York and she is honestly the best company during hectic times one can wish for.
This is actually kind of a shout out to them, thank you for the giggles, lots of them. Next time, let us:
- Not fall in the middle of the street – on flat shoes that is
- Not loose an 800 dollar shoe (and then find it once home)
- Not wear the same thing as that girl across the road
- Not end up at the wrong show venue
- Not not end up at any show venue due to traffic at all
- Not get freaked out by the crazy – gone wrong – neighbour
On a regular working day, I could not care less about time. I do wear a watch on a daily basis, but I frequently forget to look at it and then often realize around 3pm that I have not even had lunch yet. During Fashion Week it is the complete opposite and I become obsessed with time. I am that kind of person that stresses out when public transport arrives one minute late – as if it is going to go any faster when I stress or start screaming. I am also that kind of person that still thinks all shows start on time. None of them really do, but better be safe then sorry, right?
Apart from bringing notebooks and a pen to write everything you see down and all, there is one thing that is super important during Fashion Week and that is keeping your skin moisturized. Since I do not live in one of the Fashion Week capitals, Fashion Weekseason to me is also travelling season. Tons of travelling means dry skin (read; airco!) if you do not take extra care of it.
Kiehl’s lip balm #1, Mario Badescu A.H.A. & ceramide moisturizer, Origins A Perfect World for eyes, Origins Ginger Souffle whipped body cream.
One of the privileges of being born in this digital age, is to be able to bring an iPad to Fashion Week. Yes, I’m still on the hunt for a cool sleeve, but every time I fall for one, it costs more than the actual iPad itself. You can guess that there’s no way I’ll allow my wallet to get one of those.
Anyway, the Fashion Week season is right around the corner, starting with Amsterdam tomorrow, so I thought I’d discuss the essentials to stuff your bag with, starting with the iPad.
Now the iPad has been around in my bag for a few seasons already and I couldn’t imagine a season without. The thing just comes in damn handy when you need to take notes (Notes App), make to do lists (Notes App), are lost (Maps App), blog straight from the runway (WordPress App), want to know what runway music is used for the show (Shazam App), need to know where the closest cash machine is (Pin! App), are just extremely bored at a show (Draw Free App, Whiteboard Pro).
