ON PACKING

Packing for short trips can be a true pain in the *ss, but now that I am doing it more frequently, I am starting to get the hang of it. I used to really overpack, but dragging all the luggage around is an even bigger pain in the *ss than packing it – especially when you live on the fourth floor and you don’t have an elevator, I can tell you that.

I just packed my bags – just one I promise! – for a two day trip to Sweden to finish the project I was talking about (but not really talking about) in my newsletter. The ‘outfit’ pictured above is something I usually wear in the plane, a simple look that is mostly very comfy.

Shoes, Balenciaga; Cap, Gina Tricot; Jeans, Dr Denim; T-Shirt, American Apparel; Watch, Juicy Couture; Sweater, Hope.

These are the random, but very necessary things I take with me. I used to keep a list of these things, because I literally always forget something – mostly my business cards – but now that I travel more frequently I have that list printed in the back of my head.

Book, Mr Porter Paper Back (hey, can’t give a gift to the boyfriend without reading it myself); Notebook, Smythson; An International Power Adapter; Passport; iPhone; something to eat; Camera, Canon EOS M; Mini Make-Up; Glasses, Mykita; Toothbrush and -Paste; Tonic, Origins; Business Cards; Sunglasses, Bottega Veneta; iPad; Bank- and Creditcards; Headphones.

And of course, a decent outfit to wear…

Jacket, Maison Martin Margiela; Sleeveless Jacket, Acne; T-Shirt, Zadig et Voltaire; Bag, Kurt Geiger.

ps: Do not forget your pj’s, underwear and socks!

CASUAL COZY

Excuse me for stepping out in what look like bathroom slippers in these pictures, but they are actually the really cool leather perforated shoes I blogged about yesterday. They do feel like bathroom slippers though, comfy as they are. And comfy is exactly how I want to dress after a month of Fashion Week madness, which usually comes with blisters et all.

Coat, COS; Sweater, Hope; Leather Leggings, Samsoe & Samsoe; Sneakers, Vince.

UNTAMED AND TANGLED

Let me tell you a little something more about my hair. Imagine the exact opposite of the perfect blow-dry, an untamed and tangled bunch of an undefinable color – some call it blonde, I want to believe I am a brunette.

There was a time I used to really style it every morning, smudge all kinds of products into my roots and smear some extra in the ends to make sure everything stayed in place, just to come to the conclusion that after about 10 seconds on a bicycle in Dutch weather would make it look like I did not even take the effort to brush my hair. After a decent while, I just gave up.

Now I just like to put minimal effort into it and sometimes I literally do not even touch a brush. I gave my hairdresser the task to cut it in a way that does not need much work, imagine how much daylight my hairdryer gets on an average weekly basis – zero to none.

It saves tons of time in the morning, which means extra minutes for a good breakfast. After all that is the most important thing to start a new day. Better skip the hair than the yoghurt, right? Do not get me wrong, I believe hair can do a lot (read: a lot) for your look, but I like it this way. A little messiness can do no harm and equals that perfect amount of je ne sais quoi.
