About two years ago, I bought this gorgeous leather travel case from Byredo to fill up with a 12ML eau de perfume refill of Bal D’Afrique. Little did I know that that specific scent was sold out in its tiniest size both in The Netherlands as on the webstore of the Stockholm based fragrance house and seriously nowhere to be found (or ordered without any hefty import duties, for that matter). (I have to admit I was a bit lazy in Paris not wanting to metro my way to Le Bon Marché…)
That was until I stepped inside Barneys at Wilshire yesterday to browse and see if my 5 Piece French Wardrobe list was still up to date.
Found it! A tiebreaker with one of my other favorites – Beach Walk by Maison Martin Margiela – I must say.
Now the only thing missing is that leather travel case, which I left at home back in Amsterdam since it did not make any sense to drag an empty case overseas.
Fragrance, Byredo Bal D’Afrique.

I knew that when Siddhartha introduced me to Beach Walk by Margiela and it being her favorite scent, it was inevitable that sooner or later I would have to get it too. It smells like it promises summer to never end, ever.
It happens very rarely that an eau de toilette literally gives me butterflies in my stomach (is this normal, or if it is just me being a bit of a weirdo?), but this one totally does. I mean it is summer in a bottle, could it get any better?
The only other scent that makes my tummy tingle is Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb and then maybe Hermès Voyage, which is my friend Liza Chloë‘s ultimate perfume. But only maybe.
Ok, it is clear that I absolutely love this scent, possibly even just fell in love with it. If you haven’t smelled it yet and you are still looking for a summer bottle, definitely try this. Or not, because if you do we are all going to smell the same, haha! (But seriously do try it (don’t buy it).)
What have you been/are you wearing this summer? And what scent makes your tummy tingle?
PS: That apothecary-type bottle is so good, I would almost use it as home decoration.

Back in the days – I am not sure to what time I am actually referring – I feel like all women had their signature scent. I guess it was the generations before my mom’s, since she really never had one and was always switching. I am a switcher too, though there is one perfume that I always miss like crazy when the bottle is empty, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb. There are tons of other ones that I like or maybe even love, however nothing does the trick for me like this one does…it is nothing very special but I guess I could call this my signature scent then.
I am currently spending a weekend in Paris at la maison de Liza Chloë, who I chatted with about this farely random thing this morning when we woke up. She does not really have a signature scent either, however she told me she has a few favorites as well, Prada Infusion D’Iris and Hermès Voyage. I like the fact that they are a bit more unknown and she picks them by their bottles.
How about you, do you have a signature scent? Or maybe just a favorite?

advertorial – The team over at Chloé asked me to capture my own interpretation of their light and breezy -not to mention delicious- scent L’eau de Chloé and the minute I saw the giant fatice, I knew this was going to be fun. I mean it is not everyday I get to run around with a huge (and when I say huge, I really mean gigantinourmous) perfume bottle in a quiet scenery like this. Since Amsterdam can get pretty busy and hectic sometimes, one of my favorite things to do is just drive to the middle of nowhere and enjoy the silence. Especially now, when the sun starts to come out more often.
Chloé also asked me to share this really amazing competition with you. All you have to do to win the perfume -and other goodies- is download their app and share your own conception of the fragrance by taking a picture with the app, then edit them with effects to make it match the colors in the campaign and submit them to the lookbook. I have tried with a couple of pictures Lisa and I took a few weeks back and it is so fun and easy you just have to try!
Check out the Chloé blog for more information and to see the other entries. As you can see there is not much of a competition yet, so what are you waiting for.
