If you happen to be in LA anywhere between now and December 21st, make sure to check out the photography exhibition Avedon: Women at Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills, which spans six decades of Richard Avedon’s mesmerizing career.
A couple of days ago I spent half of my day browsing through thousands and thousands of flea market worthy (and un-worthy for that matter) items, coming home with an old record from The Beatles just because I thought it looked cool.
I mean I do not even own a record player.
Right around the corner of this record stand – accompanied by a guy in two pig tails held together with colored hair ties – I found this Bubble Kid photo in between tons of other great black and white shots (photography heaven!) that I literally can not stop thinking (and talking) about ever since. It is such a random image, but it would look at its best on my wall back in Amsterdam, right? I might have to go back for this one.
And speaking of photography heaven…
PS: I am on my way to Paris now for the quickest flash trip imaginable.
These shots were taken right after Waking up in Paris on our very last morning in our temporary apartment in the 16th arrondissement that was just too beautiful to not use it as a background for one of my ‘editorial’ try outs.
And what better subject than my Fashion Week partner Anna and her neverending story of hair?
As some of your might have noticed, I am concentrating more on photography and a bit less on ‘me’ around here. For the ones that come here to see what I am wearing, don’t worry, I will keep posting images of what I wear on a regular basis (hopefully in a more creative way than just snaps on the go). It is just that I feel like it is time to develop what I am really truly passionate about and that is photography.
I am still kind of a rookie when it comes to creating imaginary stories – these shots are all taken without any proper lighting (just natural light) – but I thought it would be fun to take you on my photography journey of trial and error (isn’t that the best way to learn?).
Thank you friends of TravelBird for letting us stay in your utterly gorgeous private home.
The name might imply this is a supermarket for the daily grocery shopping, however SPRMRKT is one of the coolest concept stores you will find in Amsterdam. Fun fact is that the store is located in what used to be a supermarket. The 450m2 store started as a ‘walhalla’ for designer vintage, with ‘dead stock’ collections from for example Dior among other vintage.
They slowly, in my opinion, very naturally turned into a concept store, selling just about everything they love, including Maison Martin Margiela, Helmut Lang, Individuals and their own brand SPR+.
So yes, it is pretty expensive, but just randomly browsing around and getting lost in your thoughts (what would I get if I had all the money in world? Or better: what would I NOT get?) is already worth a visit.
Every once in a while, there is a shop-in-shop in the back of the store, this time in collaboration with Diesel Black Gold (until the end of January). One more reason to visit!

There is a new toy in town, the Canon EOS M. It is their first interchangeable-lens compact system camera, which means it is as small as a normal digital camera, but able to capture super high-quality images that are even better than my – now old – DSLR. It comes with two different lenses and has these fun effects like ‘grainy black and white’, ‘fish-eye’ and ‘toy camera’, that I literally can not wait to play around with. Bye bye Instagram?
I have been wanting to get a good but small camera for ages… It just makes it easy to take anywhere and capture everything that I want on the go.
